This collection documents East's efforts to improve women's legal, political, and economic status, and reflects her service on various federal, state and international commissions on women, as well as her active participation on behalf of the Equal Rights Amendment and other major issues in a variety of women's organizations (e.g. National Women's Political Caucus, National Organization for Women Legal Defense and Education Fund). Included are correspondence, memoranda, speeches, reports, court cases and background material, calendars, mailing lists, photographs, audio tapes, and printed material relating to numerous women's issues and organizations; correspondence, speeches and other papers re: East's role in the presidential campaign of John Anderson; story notes and related material by journalist Vera Glaser; and photographs. There are very few personal papers.
