Stephen C. Foster was born in 1826 at Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania, the son of William Barclay and Eliza Clayland Tomlinson Foster, and the great grandson of Alexander Foster, who emigrated from Londonderry, Ireland, ca. 1728, and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Stephen Foster was the composer of a number of America songs including "Old Folks at Home" and "Old Kentucky Home". He died in 1864 and was survived by his wife and daughter, Marion (Mrs. Walter Welsh).
