"The American National Election Studies are national surveys carried out by the Survey Research Center (SRC) or by the Center for Political Studies (CPS) of The Institute for Social Research at The University of Michigan. They are based on multistage representative cross-section samples of citizens of voting age, living in private households. The samples are representative of the four major regions (Northeast, North Central, South, and West) of the coterminous United States. Respondents formed a cross-section sample of citizens aged 18 years and older. The survey, a post-election interview, examined the respondents' political behavior and probed their attitudes toward the mass media. Areas covered included TV and newspaper use patterns, perceptions of issues raised in the media, and the importance of current political issues and personalities, including Watergate and the Nixon resignation and pardon." . . . .
