What we do in the shadows

Vladislav, Viago, and Deacon are vampires who live here, among us. They are real vampires; undead, immortal creatures who stalk the night and search for human blood, preferably virgins. Witness the many horrid, abominable aspects of vampire life, such as hunting and feeding, vampire rivalry and fighting with werewolves, as well as normal night to night aspects that make them not so different from us like keeping the flat clean, jobs, shopping, meeting people and trying to fit in.

  • "Flatmates Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonny Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement) are three vampires who are just trying to get by in modern society; from paying rent and sticking to the housework roster to trying to get invited in to nightclubs, they're just like anyone else - except they're immortal and must feast on human blood. When their 8000 year-old flatmate, Petyr, turns 20-something human hipster, Nick, into a vampire, the guys must teach him the ropes and guide him through his new found eternal life. And in return they are forced to learn a thing or two about modern society, fashions and technology. But it's the introduction of Nick's human friend, Stu, that really changes the vampire's lives and attitudes towards the ever-changing world around them. When Stu's life is threatened, the vamps show us that maybe humans are worth fighting for, and that even though your heart may be cold and dead, it doesn't mean you can't feel anything."
  • ""In 2012, New Zealand's most well-known documentarians, Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, teamed up to follow a group of Wellington-based vampires. Yes, actual, real vampires. The resulting film is a raw, unflinching look at the lives of the undead community, and no stone unturned. From hunting victims and draining their blood to more mundane activities like paying the rent and keeping the house tidy, What We Do In The Shadows documents their struggles, fears and dreams and asks the question -"If your heart is cold and dead, are you actually dead? Obviously, you are, but are you truly really DEAD dead?"--Container insert."
