"Itauk the Madman likes to kill people and feed them to his sled dogs. Tommy McKenna is the Canadian Mountie assigned to find him. Simmons is Tommy's partner, who is destined for a grisly fate. Kaja is the beautiful Eskimo woman who stands between Tommy and Itauk, but where do her loyalties really lie?"@en

"The thoroughly fun title story is one of three in this volume. Itauk the Madman likes to kill people and feed them to his sled dogs. Tommy McKenna is the Canadian Mountie assigned to find him. Simmons is Tommy's partner, who is destined for a grisly fate. Kaja is the beautiful Eskimo woman who stands between Tommy and Itauk, but where do her loyalties really lie? This shining example of pulp fiction at its most entertaining features a far-flung locale, exotic characters, and some genuinely evocative writing ("the snarling flares of red and green and white which shot into the indigo winter sky"). "The Cossack" (1935) and "The Small Boss of Nunaloha " (1940) are both longer than the title story, but they're not quite as entertaining, suffering from a wildly implausible plot and characters ("Cossack") and a general air of lassitude ("Small Boss"). But "Yukon Madness" is definitely worth the price of admission -- Booklist."
