History of the First New Hampshire Regiment in the war of the Revolution
"When the news of the opening of the revolution by the attack of the British forces at Lexington, and their repulse at Concord, on the 19th of April, 1775, went through the country with a speed never before known, the men of the New Hampshire were at once on their way to Cambridge, where, seeing that the war was commenced, the leaders, most of whom had seen service in the French wars, felt the necessity of an immediate organization... This regiment was called the First New Hampshire regiment, and was to consist of twelve companies. The New Hampshire troops were quartered at Medford, from whence... they marched on the 17th of June to take part in the battle on Bunker Hill"--Pages 1-3.
