Evaluation of B.C. flood policy coastal area in a changing climate

An in-depth analysis of British Columbia's flood hazard management policy regime with respect to sea level rise(SLR) and associated coastal hazards. While climate change effects may not create new coastal hazards, they will exacerbate existing coastal flooding and erosion problems at many locations, both in areas where coastal flooding is currently being experienced or in low lying areas that may become exposed in the future. For the purposes of this analysis, coastal hazards refer to impacts on the coasts of B.C. including flood inundation, storms (increased frequency and intensity) and changes to sedimentation patterns (erosion). The focus of this analysis is the extent to which existing flood policy enables or inhibits adaptation to SLR and associated climate change impacts. The goal is to help inform the development of a more robust and resilient flood policy network that reduces vulnerability and risk associated with climate change.
