William Painter and his father, Dr. Edward Painter : sketches and reminiscences
Biographical sketches and reminiscences of William Painter (1838-1906) and his father, Edward Painter (1812-1875), as compiled by a son of William. Edward Painter was born at Concordville, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and married Louisa Gilpin in 1834. They lived in both Delaware and Maryland while he studied to become a medical doctor, after which he became an agent at the Omaha Indian Reservation in Nebraska, using his medical knowledge to the advantage of the Indians. William Painter, his son, was born at Triadelphia, Mont- gomery County, Maryland. William married Harriet Magee Deacon in 1861 at Philadelphia, and worked for a machinery-development shop in Baltimore, best suited to his mechanical genius and the patents of his discoveries. Both William and Edward were Quakers. Includes some contemporary history of the Omaha Indians while Edward was an agent there.
