A study of non-monotonicity and randomness in combat models

There has been considerable discussion regarding non-monotonicity in combat models. Much of the discourse has involved how the addition of stochastic elements to the models affects non-monotonicity. This paper considers the basis for randomizing a deterministic model and analyzes how outcome measures are affected. The author shows that where one puts the randomness and how much is added may have substantial consequences. Therefore, it must be done with great care.
