"Some say Abraham Lincoln was our greatest president. He was born in a one-room log cabin in Kentucky on February 12, 1809. As a boy he helped his father clear land and even built a boat that he floated to New Orleans. He loved books and would sometimes walk miles just to borrow one. As the sixteenth president, he led the country through the Civil War. He wrote the Emancipation Proclamation, setting all slaves free in the Confederate states. Abraham Lincoln died on April 15, 1865. People called him Honest Abe and Savior of the Union. Young readers will be inspired by Lincoln's story of hard work, success, and justice."
