In return, Monterone curses Rigoletto. Later, Rigoletto's daughter, Gilda, returns from her convent schooling. She soon falls in love with a poor student, who is really the Duke in disguise. The courtiers take their revenge on Rigoletto by abducting Gilda and taking her to the Duke, assisted by a blindfold Rigoletto, who thinks he is helping the abduction of Countess Ceprano. Rigoletto desperately tries to convince his daughter that the Duke is not a man of honor. Meanwhile, he hires an assassin to kill the Duke. However, Gilda dresses as a man and the assassin kills her instead of the Duke."
