This is the story of the voyage and sinking in a storm of The Chancellor, a British ship commanded by a crazed captain, sailing from Charleston in South Carolina to Liverpool with twenty-eight people aboard and a cargo of American cotton. Almost all are ultimately lost, as the few survivors succumb to starvation, cannibalism, and other tragedies.
