The Phinizy family in America

Ferdinand Phinizy (ca. 1761-1818), according to tradition was born at Parma, Italy, and was sent to France for military training. He arrived in America with French forces to fight in the Revolutionary War. Tradition says he married an Irish girl, Margaret Condon of Cranbury, Rhode Island. They had five children, 1788-1794, probably born in Wilkes or Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Margaret Phinizy died in 1815 at age 55 at Augusta, Georgia. Ferdinand Phinizy is buried on the old family plantation near Stephens, Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Descendants lived in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and elsewhere.
