The burden

This is the story of Laura, generous, capable, warmhearted, who took upon herself in childhood the burden of loving others; and despite the wise counselling of her elderly friend, Mr Baldock, learned almost too late that loving can never be a one-sided affair and that she had an equal duty to bear the burden of being loved.
