Veterans Affairs Canada audit report of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada : section 37 of the Privacy Act : final report
In October 2010, the Privacy Commissioner of Canada released the results of an investigation into a complaint alleging Veterans Affairs Canada (the Department) mishandled an individual's personal information. The Commissioner concluded that the Department was not compliant with the Privacy Act and lacked adequate controls to safeguard Veterans' personal information. The Department offers a wide range of programs and services to Veterans, their dependents and survivors. This requires the collection and use of sensitive personal information. We looked at how this information is managed.
