The complete works

Halifax (1633-1695) was one of the first political theorists to represent politics as the art of the possible. His experiences under the Stuarts and William III led him towards the conservative empiricism which he formulated most fully in his famous "Character of a Trimmer". He also wrote essays and epigrams not intended for immediate publication, notably "A Character of King Charles the Second". His other works include "A Letter to a Dissenter", "Advice to a Daughter", and various letters.
