Rich man, poor man. Disc one

"Irwin Shaw's 1970 best-seller traces the tangled and often troubled lives of Rudy and Tom Jordache, two very different brothers raised by poor immigrant parents in Port Phillip, New York. As the end of World War II brings celebration throughout the U.S., naive and hardworking Rudy (Peter Strauss) struggles to obtain a college scholarship. His beautiful and precocious girlfriend Julie (Susan Blakely) has her own ideas about 'educating' Rudy to try to advance their relationship. When he shows he is more committed to college than to her, she seeks new pleasures with wealthy businessman Teddy Boylan (Robert Reed). Meanwhile, rebel Tom (Nick Nolte) is getting an education on the streets. A dangerous prank gets him into deep trouble when he tries to meddle in Julie's affair. The brothers' fates diverge when Tom's actions cause him to be ordered out of the house and Port Phillip by his father."--Container.
