"Irwin Shaw's 1970 best-seller traces the tangled and often troubled lives of Rudy and Tom Jordache, two very different brothers raised by poor immigrant parents in Port Phillip, New York. As the end of World War II brings celebration throughout the U.S., naive and hardworking Rudy (Peter Strauss) struggles to obtain a college scholarship.
