Based on a traditional approach, this reference grammar of literary dhimotiki is designed to be most useful to advanced undergraduates or beginning graduate students of greek. (Dhimotiki, or demotic, is the popular form of modern greek.) In part I there is an extensive description of the phonological system followed by a discussion of the writing system. Part ii deals with nouns and numerals, pronominal words, verbs, and uninflected words. The third part concerns sentences and includes some remarks on syntax. The grammar is intended for the student with little or no linguistic training so explanations of structural phenomena are few. This text appears in part ii of the "international journal of american linguistics," vol. 30, no. 2, april 1964, and is available for $4.00 from the director of publications, research center in anthropology, folklore, and linguistics, rayl house, indiana university, bloomington, indiana 47401.
