A Collection of Sacred Hymns, for the Church of the Latter Day Saints
Copies of this hymnbook are extremely rare, with fewer than a dozen known to exist today. Emma Smith, wife of prophet Joseph Smith, selected the 90 hymns included in this book, which was the first hymnal used by the Latter Day Saint movement. Because of persecution and the constant uprooting of the Mormon church in its early days, the book took Smith five years to complete. Many of these hymns were previously published in The Evening and the Morning Star, an early Mormon newspaper.
