Memorial of Thomas Ewing of Ohio

Thomas Ewing was born near West Liberty, Ohio County, Virginia, in 1789, the son of George Ewing (b. 1754), a lieutenant in the Revolutionary War. His family moved to Athens County, Ohio, in 1798. He graduated from the University of Ohio in 1815 and was admitted to the practice of law in 1816. He was a United States senator and served in the cabinets of Presidents Harrison and Taylor. He married Marie Boyle (1801-1864), daughter of Hugh Boyle, of Lancaster, Ohio, in 1820, in Fairfield County, Ohio. They had six children. He died at Lancaster, Ohio, in 1871.
