"Bart Cook's achievements are innumerable. In 1979 he became a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, working extensively with Jerome Robbins and originating and performing several soloist roles. He also began to choreograph at George Balanchine's urging. Cook's pieces for the School of American Ballet and the New York City Ballet Education Department were greatly admired, and his last work for NYCB, Flotezart, was performed during the inaugural season of The Diamond Project in 1992. He has been a ré́pétiteur for the George Balanchine Trust and the Robbins Rights Trust for more than 20 years. This program takes viewers inside Cook's creative methodology as he prepares students for a workshop performance of La Italiana in Algeri at Lincoln Center -- a rare and charming glimpse into the choreographic process."
