"Photographs taken mainly to support the work of the Inland Automobile Association, American Automobile Association and the good roads movement in the Inland Northwest, particularly Spokane County and surrounding area of eastern Washington; roads, road building and maintenance in the area, documentation of cross-country "pathfinder tours" to demonstrate the feasibility of automobile travel, with many images depicting the 1916 National Parks Highway Association Tour from Chicago to Seattle; cars and trucks of all kinds over a number of years; the evolution of early municipal campgrounds for automobile tourists, including many photographs of one in Spokane; photographs of Guilbert and other leaders in the promotion of improved roads and motor travel; colored lantern slides of scenic areas of the West, with particular emphasis on the historic Columbia River Highway on the Oregon side of the River."
