"Abraham Preble came over from England with the "Men of Kent," and settled, somewhere about the year 1636 in Scituate, Plymouth Colony. ... very soon after his arrival [he] was married to Judith, the third daughter of Elder Nathaniel Tilden ... After his marriage, Abraham Preble removed to York, or Gorgiana, as it was then called, in the Province of Maine, where, in 1642 he purchased a tract of land of Edward Godfrey."--P. [5]-6. Abraham died about 30 March 1663 in York County, Maine. "Jedidiah Preble, a grandson of Abraham Preble and Judith Tilden, ... was born in York, in the Province of Maine, A.D. 1707. He was the first of the name that settled on the Peninsula of ancient Falmouth, now the site of the city of Portland, Me., about the year 1748."--P. 41. On 21 March 1733, he married Martha Junkins, " ... a daughter of Alexander Junkins of Scotland Parish in Old York."--P. 42. Martha died 10 March 1753 at Falmouth, Me. Jedidiah married, secondly, Mrs. Mehitable Roberts, widow of John Roberts Jr., and a daughter of Joshua and Mehitable Clark Bangs on 9 May 1754. Jedidiah Preble died at Falmouth, Maine on 11 March 1784. Descendants and relatives lived in Maine, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and elsewhere.
