The War of the Worlds

What would happen if Martians landed on Earth--and none of our weapons could stop them? H.G. Wells's timeless masterpiece--which spawned many a movie adaptation--imagines this frightening scenario. The horrifying bug-like extraterrestrials, which can wipe out entire crowds with a single heat-ray and poisonous gas, first appear in the English countryside and then wreak havoc. Narrated by an unnamed protagonist who flees home to seek out safe ground, this terrifying tale creates a shockingly realistic vision of what might happen if fearsome, technologically superior aliens attacked us. Beautifully illustrated by acclaimed artist Scott McKowen, this Unabridged Classic will rivet kids and adults alike.

  • "'Death!' I shouted. 'Death is coming! Death!' In this pioneering, shocking and nightmarish tale, naïve suburban Londoners investigate a strange cylinder from space, but are instantly incinerated by an all-destroying heat-ray. Soon, gigantic killing machines that chase and feed on human prey are threatening the whole of humanity. A pioneering work of alien invasion fiction, The War of the World's journalistic style contrasts disturbingly with its horrifying visions of the human race under siege. (Website Amazon.de)."

A través de esta fábula en la que las descripciones científicas, las premoniciones sobre el futuro de la tecnología y los entresijos de la política ocupan un lugar central, H. G. Wells nos habla sobre la vanidad y la seguridad ficticia de una humanidad autosatifecha, y los peligros que acechan su supervivencia."
