In April 1987, 14 distinguished Americans, representing the law, medicine, universities, publishing, tobacco and alcohol industries, met in Faneuil Hall to discuss the conflict between the 1st Amendment and concerns for public health. The 1976 Supreme Court ruling that truthful advertising has 1st Amendment protection conflicts with currently proposed bans on alcohol and tobacco advertisng.
