The special includes performances by Ben Vereen, Louis Gossett, Jr., Debbie Allen, and Cheryl Ladd. Vereen and Gossett perform a 1940's big band musical number and also recreate their roles as Chicken George and Fiddler from "Roots." Vereen and several children and dancers perform "On the street", a song and dance number in which Vereen recalls his growing up on the street. Vereen and Ladd perform "See you tomorrow in class", a song and dance number. Vereen, Gossett, and Allen perform a ballroom song and dance number from the 1940's. Vereen and several dancers perform "Galactic funk", a futuristic dance number.
