- "The cat made me buy it! will introduce you to some of the most famous feline persuaders ever created, furry salesmen of the past who helped to coax people into buying products as well known as Kellogg's cereal, Coca-Cola soft drink, and Ivory soap, and others as unusual as Tom Cat oranges, Black Cat hosiery, Kaliko Kat shoes, and White Cat cigars. These cats pranced across magazine ads, signs, and the labels on product packages. They decorated popular sheet music, parlor-games boxes, posters, magazine covers, and early Victorian advertising cards. It seems that they were found in just about every form of advertising in use between the late 1800s and the 1940s. Every page of this collection presents a different cat in illustrations by more than a hundred advertising artists."
