Hanks historical review

Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Hanks (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England and Germany. Some settled in Massachusetts and Virginia in the 1600s. One such immigrant ancestor was John Hanks, who came to Jamestown. In the 1700s, Hanks families settled in Connecticut, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. During the 1800s, some moved to Illinois, Iowa, Montana, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas. Later descendants also lived in California, Colorado, Maine, Rhode Island, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and elsewhere. Some wills mention slaves' names. Some also featured are the families related to Abraham Lincoln through his mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln. A table of contents to back issues and additional information is found on the Web site.
