Official correspondence (1756-1768) of Francis Fauquier mostly between London and Williamsburg includes instructions, orders, commissions, depositions, circular letters, accounts for quit rents, lists of vessels with grains (1762) and payroll of recruits (1762). Subjects include Cherokee Indian affairs, military and troop matters, taxation, the College of William and Mary, privateering (1761), shipping, the Don Pedro Bermudez/Norfolk riot affair (1761-1762) and the House of Burgesses. Correspondents include George Washington, William Pitt, William Byrd, Sir Jeffrey Amherst, William Henry Lyttelton, Sir William Johnson, the Earl of Shelburne, Earl of Halifax and Earl of Hillsborough.
