  • "When Whit and Wisty Allgood recieve a clandestine proposal from a member of the New Order's inner circle to help them oust the New Order's leader from power, the siblings question whether they should trust such a man."
  • "FANTASY. It's hard being special. Whit and Whisty aren't like other kids. In fact, they aren't just a little bit different from the rest of their class, they are very special. Brother and sister, Whit is a wizard and Whisty is a witch. But of course, it isn't easy standing out from the crowd. When people don't understand you, they start to feel threatened and lash out and Whit and Whisty are far from safe. Kidnapped, they were ripped from the comfort and security of their family home, frightened and under attack. Will they be able to get away? And what awaits them on the way?"
  • "Wisty and Whit Allgood have magical powers, but they don't know it. At least they don't know until they are arrested by the guards of the New Order, which has just come to power. Their parents have always been into herbs and plants and predictions; they don't send their kids to typical schools, and when the teens are allowed to take only one item each to jail with them, they send a drumstick and a book with no words that are visible to the naked eye. The kids start to get an inkling of what they can do when Wisty bursts into flames when she gets angry, and before long she is turning people into creatures and conjuring tornadoes, and lightning bolts shoot from her hands."

  • "The world is changing: the government has seized control of every aspect of society, and now, kids are disappearing. For 15-year-old Wisty and her older brother Whit, life turns upside down when they are torn from their parents one night and slammed into a secret prison for no reason they can comprehend. The New Order, as it is known, is clearly trying to suppress Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Being a Normal Teenager. But while trapped in this totalitarian nightmare, Wisty and Whit discover they have incredible powers they'd never dreamed of. Can this newly minted witch and wizard master their skills in time to save themselves, their parents--and maybe the world?"@en
  • "Torn from their parents in a society increasingly controlled by the government, siblings Wisty and Whit are incarcerated in a totalitarian prison where they discover they have incredible supernatural powers."@en
  • "When Whit & Wisty were imprisoned by the wicked forces of the totalitarian regime known as the New Order, they were barely able to escape with their lives. Now part of a hidden community of teens like themselves, Whit and Wisty have established themselves as leaders of the Resistance, willing to sacrifice anything to save kids kidnapped and brutally imprisoned by the New Order. But the One has other plans in store for them: He needs Wisty, for she is "The One Who Has the Gift." While trying to figure out what that means, Whit and Wisty's suspenseful adventures through Overworld and Shadowland lead to a jaw-dropping climax and conclusion: the highly-anticipated fulfillment of the heart-pounding opening prologue of book one... The Execution of the Allgoods."@en

The kids start to get an inkling of what they can do when Wisty bursts into flames when she gets angry, and before long she is turning people into creatures and conjuring tornadoes, and lightning bolts shoot from her hands. The bulk of the book takes place when Whit and Wisty are locked up in a reformatory where they are bullied by the guards. The chapters are only one to three pages in length and alternate between the two main characters' points of view. The action doesn't really pick up until the last third of the book, when the siblings make their escape. Readers expecting something akin to Patterson's "Maximum Ride" series (Little, Brown) are bound to be disappointed, but the groundwork is set for subsequent volumes that might make wading through the first one worthwhile.?"@en
  • "How would you feel if you found out your parents had been keeping a secret from you all your life? What if you got kidnapped in the middle of the night and were accused of being a witch or wizard? And then you were told that everything you loved -- your books, your music, your pictures -- were banned forever? -- p. [4] of cover."
  • "After escaping imprisonment by the totalitarian regime known as the New Order, siblings Wisty and Whit Allgood, who possess magical powers, establish themselves as leaders of the Resistance, a hidden community of teenagers like themselves, hunted by the state and determined to defy its ban on the arts, magic, and all other forms of creativity."
