Saflufenacil

Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has received applications to register technical grade saflufenacil and the end-use products Eragon, Heat WG and Integrity for use in Canada on barley, chickpeas, corn, lentils, oats, dry field peas, soybeans and wheat. Before registering a pesticide for food use in Canada, the PMRA must determine the quantity of residues that are likely to remain in or on the food when the pesticide is used according to label directions and that such residues will not be a concern to human health. The evaluation of these saflufenacil applications indicated that the end-use products have merit and value and that the human health and environmental risks associated with their proposed uses are acceptable. In addition, the PMRA is proposing to establish import MRLs for saflufenacil on legume vegetables, citrus fruits, pome fruits, stone fruits, tree nuts, grapes, sunflower seeds and undelinted cotton seeds to permit the import and sale of food containing these residues. This paper reviews the level of legally established maximum residual level (MRLs) of saflufenacil in or on food, to be added to the MRLs already legally established, as well as a table on proposed maximum residue limits for saflufenacil and an appendix of crop groups by number and definitions.--Includes text from document.

  • "As part of the assessment process prior to the registration of a pesticide, Health Canada must determine whether the consumption of the maximum amount of residues, that are expected to remain on food products when a pesticide is used according to label directions, will not be a concern to human health. This maximum amount of residues expected is then legally established as a maximum residue limit (MRL) and is regulated under the Pest Control Products Act (PCPA). This document presents the MRLs for the end-use products Eragon, Heat WG and Integrity, containing technical grade saflufenacil, for use in Canada on barley, chickpeas, corn, dry field peas, lentils, oats, soybeans and wheat. The MRLs for saflufenacil take legal effect as of the publication date of this document.--Includes text from document and publisher's website."

The specific uses approved in Canada are detailed on the labels of Heat WG and Eragon, Pest Control Products Act Registration Numbers 29368 and 29372, respectively.--Document."
