  • "Summary: Ten-year-old Sal is disappointed that she and her parents are to spend Christmas with her grandmother in the country. Her father explains that Grandma needs them now that Grandpa has died, but Sal remains unhappy with the arrangement. Once there, she is soon bored and eventually ends up in the attic amidst trunks full of memorabilia from the past. Amongst the forgotten treasures is a blue coat, which magically transports her in time to a country road. Here she meets and strikes up a friendship with Sarah, a girl her own age, who shows her the hand-carved and painted wooden box she received for Christmas. After they part, Sal finds herself back at Grandma's house and that evening she is given an early Christmas present - the very box she had seen in Sarah's possession. A film based on a story by Margaret Laurence."
