In 1935 Yemen, half-feral Jama wanders the sea ports scavenging for food. However, when his young mother dies and leaves him 100 rupees, Jama decides to use his entire inheritance to search for his father, whom he has never met. Subsequently, Jama embarks on a thousand-mile journey to Egypt, discovering the exhilarating highs and piteous lows of humanity.
