[1] "The trapped generation" looks at African-American ghetto youth. Includes footage of ghetto area and of young men and women loitering on city sidewalks; and interviews with adults and police officers about the problems faced by area youth. [2] "The alien land" focuses on a poor white family living in a former hog shed in a rural area outside Cleveland. [3] "Somebody's children" shows a young boy playing with a box-and-string cablecar outside his ghetto home; voiceover narration describes the trash, vermin and desolation shown by the camera. Four other segments. "Sold American" looks at the economic plight of a small dairy farmer. "Color my Christmas gray" shows a poor young girl walking through her neighborhood and dreaming of a festive holiday. "Portrait of George Szell" shows Szell addressing the Cleveland Orchestra and leading them in a rehearsal. The last segment, shown without a title, examines the reasons why an American Greetings plant was moved from Cleveland to Osceola, Arkansas. Includes interviews with Osceola Mayor Ben Butler and American Greetings executive James Williams, and footage of American Greetings plant and other Osceola industries."
