The last chronical of Barset

This panoramic novel is a collection of small plots, including a continuation of the story of Lily Dale and Johnny Eames (of The small house at Allington), the death of the dreadful Mrs. Proudie (of Barchester towers), and the false accusation of theft against old Mr. Crawley, who is triumphantly vindicated. Trollope obligingly killed off Mrs. Proudie at the request of his readers, who uniformly detested her. As he said in his autobiography, "I regard this as the best novel I have written."
