Correspondence (11 letters, 32 p.) from two Civil War soldiers, Peter Sheaff and John Fox, written from various field locations in Tenn., Miss., La., and a military hospital in Gallatin, Tenn. Peter Sheaff (10 letters. 28 p.) describes his involvement in military actions such the Battle of Shiloh (also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing), the Siege of Vicksburg, the capture of Fort Henry, battles of Davis Bridge on the Hattie River, Port Gibson, and Black River Bridge, among others. One letter written on pictorial lettersheet with color illustration of a general on horseback reviewing Union troops holding American flags. The illustration is titled "The War for the Union" with a caption "Stand by me, and I'll stand by you. Gen. McClellan." John Fox writes his letter (1 letter, 4 p.) containing 3 letters in sequence addressed separately to his wife and children from Hospital #3 in Gallatin, Tenn. after he was admitted by the Surgeon.
