"Mariano José de Larra (Madrid, 1809-Madrid, 1837), España. Hijo de un médico del ejército francés, en 1813 tuvo que huir con su familia a ese país tras la retirada de las fuerzas bonapartistas expulsadas de la península. Como dato sorprendente cabe decir que a su regreso a España apenas hablaba castellano. Estudió en el colegio de los escolapios de Madrid, después con los jesuitas y más tarde derecho en Valladolid. Siendo muy joven se enamoró de una amante de su padre y este incidente marcó su vida. En 1829 se casó con Josefa Wetoret, la unión resultó también un fracaso. Las relaciones adúlteras que mantuvo con Dolores Armijo se reflejan en el drama Macías (1834) y en la novela histórica El doncel de don Enrique el Doliente (1834), inspiradas en la leyenda de un trovador medieval ejecutado por el marido de su amante. Trabajó, además, en los periódicos El Español, El Redactor General y El Mundo y se interesó por la política. Aunque fue diputado, no ocupó su escaño debido a la disolución de las Cortes. Larra se suicidó el 13 de febrero de 1837, tras un encuentro con Dolores Armijo."
