"Il volume rappresenta la naturale prosecuzione del "Manuale di stile" pubblicato dal Mulino nel 1997 che, nel corso degli anni, si è imposto come lo strumento di riferimento essenziale per tutti quelli che si sono occupati della semplificazione del linguaggio burocratico. È una guida destinata al mondo universitario e agli operatori del diritto (amministrazioni in primo luogo), che contiene, oltre a una parte teorica sulle caratteristiche del linguaggio giuridico e sulle regole di semplificazione, una seconda parte di esempi di testi semplificati. La semplificazione del linguaggio amministrativo in Italia è nata e si è affermata a partire dal 1993, quando il ministro della Funzione Pubblica, Sabino Cassese, avviò, nell'ambito della complessiva riforma delle pubbliche amministrazioni, un progetto per migliorare la qualità del linguaggio e la capacità di comunicare. Da allora, anche grazie al "Manuale di stile" che è un prodotto di quel progetto, molte amministrazioni hanno chiarito le proprie comunicazioni, ma molto resta ancora da fare."
