http://schema.org/description

  • "Collection of correspondence, legal, notarial, and financial documents, inventories, reports, and other miscellaneous writings concerning the diplomatic relationships between the Grand-duchy of Tuscany, the Papal States, and the Holy Roman Empire for the years 1689-1744. In particular, a large number of documents deal with the relationship between Anton Francesco Montauti, who was stationed as a diplomat in various European locations, and members of the Medici family in Florence. Abbot Marquis Anton Francesco Montauti served as special envoy for Cosimo III, grand-duke of Tuscany, to the Imperial court in Vienna until 1699; from 1699-1708 he served as Secretary of War; most of these letters are written to him in Vienna. Cardinal Francesco Maria de' Medici, brother of Cosimo III, was involved in diplomatic relations between the papal court, Tuscany, and the Imperial Court. Gian Gastone was the son and successor of Cosimo III, some of this correspondence is related to arrangements for his marriage to Princess Anne of Saxe-Lauenburg, widow of the Count Palatine."
