E.T.A. Hoffmann, German romantic poet, spent his life as a lawyer in the service of the Prussian state. But his real love was for music. It was in honour of Mozart that he added the A to his initials. As a composer he wrote chamber music, religious choral music, a symphony and the first romantic opera in the history of music, Undine. This program about E.T.A. Hoffmann, the musician, concentrates on his time in Bamberg where he worked as musical director at the theatre.
