This booklet on science and technology is a series of eight lectures delivered at the National Bureau of Standards during the months of March and April, 1976. These lectures were presented to commemorate both the bicentennial of the United States and the funding of the National Bureau of Standards 75 years ago. The eight lectures are: (1) a chronicle and some predictions; (2) Quantum science and its impact on metrology; (3) Materials; (4) Chemistry (a changing frontier); (5) Applied mathematics and its future; (6) Computers in science and technology; (7) The technology of energy; (8) The future role of engineering. These lectures were designed to assess the state and future prospects of science and technology in America. A short biography for each lecture and a list of references for some lectures are included.
