Letter to Preston Harritt, dated September 6, 1839, from William Holland Thomas. Thomas told Harritt that he estimated he would be able to leave Washington City the following week where he has been attending to the Cherokee claims and that he would have to stop in Raleigh to attend to business before returning home. Thomas further wrote to tell the Indians to keep sober, be industrious, and friendly with each other and the whites. Letter was copied to Elizabeth and John Melch, JW King, HP King, and Allen Fisher.
