A fifty-five year old man who has spent his working life in large sailing ships, is the first person to sail single-handedly around the world. He does it in a small boat he has rebuilt himself out a wreck of a boat he was given for free. Except for the fact he was born in Nova Scotia, you might call him everybody's ideas of an old time Yankee, thrifty, a loner, with a dry sense of humor, never getting too excited about anything.
