"Interview with Daniel Nagrin, who prefaces his account of his life and career with the observation that an artist's works speak more clearly of his intentions than his biography. Nagrin describes how he began to dance ; his long partnership with Helen Tamiris as a dance team, in Broadway musicals, and with the Tamiris-Nagrin company ; his decision to become a solo performer, abetted in part by the encouragement of Paul Draper ; the lessons of the Open Theater, which he applied in his work for the Workgroup company ; the atmosphere of fear and repression he perceived during the McCarthy era. Among the works he discusses are Path, The Peloponnesian war, Strange hero, and Spanish dance. He discusses his belief that art should create mystery and wonderment, and that it is up to the viewer rather than the artist to find explanations."
