In seinem Ritterroman "Das letzte Abenteuer" erzählt er aufs neue die alte Geschichte vom edlen Helden, der den Drachen tötet und die Königstochter heiratet, doch die Handlung steht völlig auf dem Kopf. Der Kampf verläuft anders als erwartet, ein weiterer Ritter erlegt den Lindwurm, doch beide verschmähen die Dame, so dass ein Lückenbüsser für die Hochzeit gesucht werden muss. Der Ritter Ruy de Fanez aber zieht weiter auf der Suche nach "aventiure", und er findet in seinem letzten Abenteuer den eigentlichen Sinn seiner Existenz. Heimito von Doderer (1896-1966) ist einer der bedeutendsten Autoren des 20. Jahrhunderts. Seine berühmtesten Romane sind "Ein Mord, den jeder begeht", "Die Strudlhofstiege" und "Die Dämonen". Martin Mosebach ist nicht nur Schriftsteller, sondern einer der besten Kenner Heimito von Doderers, über dessen Werk er vielfach publiziert und Vorträge gehalten hat."
