This manual on Tuva consists of the following: (1) an area handbook; (2) a grammar; (3) a reader; (4) a Tuvan-English glossary; and (5) an annotated bibliography. Part one contains the following articles: (1) "Tuva," by M. Underdown; (2) "The Tuvinian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic," translated by W. Dougherty; (3) "The Tuvans," by L. P. Potapov; and (4) "Gazeteer," by M. Underdown. Part two contains sections on phonology, morphology, dialects, and suffixes of Tuvan. Part three consists of introductory short phrases and sentences, plus "The Life of Anton P. Chekhov" and extracts from Radloff's "Proben," from a modern newspaper, and from a history textbook. Part four is a Tuvan-English Glossary keyed to the reading texts. Part five is an annotated bibliography of resource materials for the study of Tuvan and is divided into the following sections: (1) Area: Land and People; (2) Tuvan Language, Literature, Dictionaries; (3) Works Entirely in Tuvan; (4) Social Sciences; and (5) a Miscellaneous section.
