Psychological evaluation of the cerebral palsied person intellectual, personality, and vocational applications

"This volume was born of the pragmatic conviction that there needs to be assembled within the covers of one book the testing "know-how" that is scattered among diverse sources of information. The sensory and motor involved encephalopathic testee presents unique problems in the art of evaluation. Serious decisions must be made on the basis of psychological test findings in correlation with other data. The sentimental attitude which dictates tender-hearted testing procedures can yield only a harvest of unnecessary frustration and disappointment. To obviate this and to help the psychologist and vocational personnel avoid the sentimental easy way out of this dilemma, the authors offer this book on testing procedures as a guide for tough-minded assessment. It is hoped that this could lead to more realistic appraisal and planning with the cerebral palsied person. Assessment efforts should be planned and accomplished within the context of the agency's philosophy of service to its clients. Routine testing may be acceptable but data take on "live" meaning when planning for educational, therapeutic, and vocational programs is involved. The added ingredients of purpose and goal furnish raw data for verifying the agency's rationale and the quality of its service. Both service and research endeavors will benefit mutually as test data and goal achievement are analyzed and correlated for elements in successes and failures"--Introduction.
