Man Ray was one of the most famous and original artists of the 20th century. Born in America, he spent most of his artistic life in Paris where he was one of the leading Surrealists. He revolutionised photography through his experiments and then popularised these through his work as a portrait and fashion photographer. He was also a painter, sculptor and filmmaker. "Mister 6 Seconds" refers to the shutter speed he used.

"Jean-Paul Fargier's remarkable film describes the singular artistic vision of Man Ray, often considered one of the most important pioneers of photography. Born in the U.S., Man Ray spent half of his life in France, where he produced most of his art. Man Ray developed a close relationship with Marcel Duchamp, both men pushing each other "like chess opponents" to explore new artistic ground. In the early 1920s, Man Ray moved to Paris and became involved with the surrealists. During his career, he explored the chemistry of photography, and invented such unique processes as "rayographs" and "solarisation.""@en
