The three little pigs

This Disney animation, made during the Depression, was based on a classic folktale. The first and second little pigs build their houses quickly and go out to play, while a third toils to construct a substantial dwelling. When the big bad wolf comes, he blows the first and second pigs' houses down. The two escape to the safety of the third pig's house and thwart the wolf's evil intentions. The cartoon's theme song "Who's afraid of the big bad wolf," with its hopeful message, was popular during this period of economic deprivation. The film won an Academy Award for the best cartoon feature of the year.
