Race to save the planet. Save the earth, feed the world
Raises concerns that fertile farmland around the world is left barren and depleted of necessary nutrients because of intensive agricultural practices and that with global population rates continuing to climb, alternatives to chemical-dependent farming must be found to feed the earth's inhabitants.
"Overproduction and intensive use is leaving much of the world's farmland barren. Looks at farmers in Australia, Indonesia, West Africa, and the United States who are rediscovering traditional agricultural practices and using science and technology to work with nature, rather than conquer it. Topics include: use of organic vs. chemical fertilizers, natural insect control vs. pesticides, crop rotation, reforestation and replanting of indigenous species to combat soil erosion/depletion; plant biotechnology to produce virus resistant strains."

"La surproduction, la culture intensive, l'utilisation de fertilisants et d'insecticides chimiques menacent l'environnement et les terres agricoles. Le document présente de nouvelles stratégies basées sur l'agriculture traditionnelle qui permettent d'accroître la production sans nuire à l'environnement."
